Cobalt the low-cost Cyprus based airline has flown 740,000 passengers since it launched less than 16 months ago according to Director Nikos Petrou.
Speaking at an event in Larnaca Mr Petrou added that the company had sold 790,000 tickets during this time. He continued: "today, Cobalt sells around 2500 tickets a day, has a fleet of 6 aircraft and is flying to 17 popular destinations."
He added that "based on the business plan of the company, it will soon begin direct flights to distant destinations such as China, the Middle East, India, the USA and Africa".
Cobalt "has a well-trained and knowledgeable workforce (252 people) that offers high quality passenger services to the public."
He also said that Cobalt "managed in less than a year to achieve a safety and quality standard with ICAO certification by the IATA International Air Transport Association."
"The aim of the company from the first day of its operation was to contribute to the emergence of Cyprus as a regional air hub, supporting the economy of Cyprus and the Cypriot traveler" Mr Petrou said.
Cobalt was the first Cyprus-based airline to begin operations since Cyprus Airways ceased flying in January 2015. Using a low-cost model and former staff from the defunct Cyprus Airways, it has been operating on an increasing number of international routes since its launch 16 months ago. Whilst still a relatively new player in the Cyprus market it has seen growing demand from customers by offering low prices and regular special offers.
