A Turkish patrol ship was spotted today around one mile from the coast of Protaras close to Cavo Greko. At 13:00hrs the ship was visible to the naked eye with reports in the local media suggesting that it had sailed from the occupied port of Famagusta.
The Turkish vessel was contacted by the ROC authorities at 14:30hrs and informed that it was in violation of international laws and regulations, which state that it should be 12 nautical miles from shore. After being contacted the patrol ship eventually complied and sailed from its position.
In statements to Radio Proto, the Commander of the Ministry of Defense Research and Rescue Coordination Center, Costas Foteris, stressed that this is a normal situation, which is monitored by the competent authorities.
