Traffic police say the motorist’s car was clocked doing 207km/h – at around 1.10am on Sunday morning – on the Nicosia-Larnaca motorway just shy of the Lympia exit but continued his course when he was flagged down by police.
He eventually stopped close to the Athienou exit when a police patrol car gave chase.
A breathalyser test from conducted on the 29-year-old driver, who police say is from the Famagusta district, which showed that he had 63mg% of alcohol in his blood. A second test showed that he had 48mg%. The legal limit for his driving category is 22mg%.
The man was placed under arrest and taken to Pera Chorio Police Station where he was formally charged.
