Job vacancies drop by 20% in second quarter

The number of annual job vacancies recorded a drop by 20.09% in the second quarter of 2017, compared with the same quarter of last year, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service show.

According to data, job vacancies for the second quarter of 2017 were 2,708.

Job vacancies fell by 681 (-20.09%) compared to the same quarter of the previous year when they were 3,389.

The greatest drop occurred in accommodation and food service activities (-60.95%) and the biggest increase was in financial and insurance activities (486.36%).

Compared to the first quarter of 2017 job vacancies were also down 20.31%.

The job vacancy rate for the second quarter of 2017 was 0.8%, while the job vacancy rate for the previous quarter was 1.1% and the second quarter of 2016 was 1.0%.

The biggest job vacancy rates for the second quarter of 2017 were recorded in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (1.8%) and in information and communication (1.5%).
