Machairas Monastery is planning to set up a sheep farm that recovering addicts at the Ayia Skepi Therapeutic Community will be able to work at as part of their treatment.

The income generated by the farm will also go towards Ayia Skepi’s financial support

According to the Monastery’s application to the District Office of Nicosia and the Environmental Department, the farm will be set up near Politiko village.

Ayia Skepi is a long-term therapeutic community for adults. It is a private not-for-profit organisation founded in 1999 which, according to its website, provides services to long-term dependant substance users and their families in an inpatient and outpatient setting.

The main goal of the program is total abstinence from illicit drugs and alcohol.

The facility is located in rural Politiko village in the outskirts of Nicosia, in a privately owned building within 50 acres of land that belongs to the Holy Abbey of Machaira.
