Monday signals the start of the traditional August 15 holiday when many local businesses close and the coastal towns are filled with holidaymakers from Nicosia mingling with overseas visitors.
Speaking to www.in-cyprus.com, Meteorological Department official Panayiotis Georgiou said temperatures over the coming days would be hovering around 37°C inland, between 31°C and 35°C on the coasts and 30°C in the mountains.
“This is all just about average for this time of year,” Georgiou said. He noted that it was still too soon to say for sure what the weather would be like after Monday, although there were some indications temperatures will rise very slightly “by around 1°C”.
