Deposits increase while loans decrease in May

The deposits in the Cypriot banking system increased in May 2017 after a decline last month, while the deleveraging of the Cypriot economy continued with loans recording a decline during 19 months in the last two years.

According to an announcement by the Central Bank of Cyprus, total deposits in May 2017 recorded a net increase of €168,8 million, compared with a net decrease of €155,4 million in April 2017.

The annual growth rate stood at 5,9%, compared with 6,4% in April 2017. The outstanding amount of deposits reached €49,1 billion in May 2017....
