Greek PM Alexis Tsipras is not considered an expert on Cyprob. I am pretty sure that he hasn’t followed the laborious and strikingly unsuccessful efforts throughout the years to achieve a settlement.
After all, most “motherland” Greeks have done the same, in an effort to keep their sanity intact.
That is why Tsipras’ assurances to Greek political leaders that development on Cyprob will be rapid, and a solution will be within reach in Switzerland, came as a great surprise to his interlocutors in Athens, as well as to people in Cyprus.
Tsipras reportedly evaluated the state of play on Cyprus, while briefing Greek party leaders last Monday, after a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Binali Yildirim at his office in the Greek capital.
The public statements by the two leaders left no doubt that guarantors Athens and Ankara had once again not found common ground on the thorny issue of Cyprus security.
