This is what an Embassy announcement said on Monday, adding that Kohl who passed away on Friday aged 87 was “a great German statesman and above all a great European”.
“Helmut Kohl held office from 1982 to 1998 being the longest serving Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. Former Chancellor Kohl is considered the architect of reunification in 1990,” the announcement also said.
“Not only did Kohl do much for German reunification, but also for the integration of Europe. That is his great legacy. That is how we will remember him,’’ it added.
