The announcement was made by House Health Committee chair Costas Constantinou following Thursday’s meeting on the issue.
“It is the best course of action that gives citizens and patients both rights and aspirations. Making the NHS available to the public has been made possible through a much needed major reform in our country,” said Constantinou.
Tempers flared however when a Finance Ministry official informed the Committee that the Ministry could not agree with the government’s 4.7% contribution towards the NHS as it would have an economic impact on public finances.
“In this regard we cannot take a position if we don’t know the economic impact,” said the official adding that the Finance Ministry had as yet not been notified about the agreement regarding contributions....
