Travel agents are advising customers that due to increased demand they should book as early as possible if they want to holiday in Cyprus this year.

The Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) in a statement advised Russians who want to holiday in Cyprus this year, to make their reservations in good time. They cited high demand and reduced availability of beds in both Greece & Cyprus.

Speaking to Simerini News Russian travel agent, Mouzenidis Travel, noted that "demand for Greece and Cyprus, for the second consecutive year, far beyond our ability to meet the needs that exist in terms of tourist accommodation". Adding "Greece and Cyprus are the safest European destinations for Russian tourists and that has its value".

In a statement on the ATOR website, Elena Bel'skaya head of Mouzenidis Travel, indicated that already at this stage the demand is four times higher than in the previous year. There is every reason to forecast that the trend will continue for the entire year she added.

According to the statement, whilst Ayia Napa and Protaras remain firm favourites with Russian tourists it noted that interest was shifting towards Paphos this year.

Block bookings by the major tour operators in the UK & Germany are adding to the problems with the CTO expressing concern. However it has also urged hoteliers to ensure accommodation is available for tourists from outside the two main tourist markets of the UK & Russia.

Whilst tourism officials will want to build on the increased tourist numbers of previous years it should be mindful of the problems overbooking can bring. Ensuring that the tourists that do reach Cyprus have a positive experience should always be the number one priority.
