Burglars have made off with hundreds of thousands of euros in cash and luxury items following two separate break-ins at homes belonging to Russians living in Limassol.

In the first case, the burglars escaped with a 300kilo safe containing €250,000 in cash and luxury items from a Potamo tis Yermasoyia house.

According to the police, the burglars entered the home after violating a balcony door, located the safe hidden in a wardrobe, and left with it.

The home’s Russian owners said they discovered the break-in on their return home from a day out at around 10.45pm on Saturday.

They said the safe contained €50,000 in euros, roubles and dollars, and jewellery worth over €200,000.

They were not insured.

The second break-in saw burglars targeting a second-floor apartment in Yermasoyia and getting away with €54,250 worth of designer clothing and accessories. They once again entered through a balcony door which had been closed but not locked.
