Syrian refugees reach north-western Cyprus coast

A boat with about 25 Syrian refugees who sailed from Turkey’s Mersin southern port reached a remote coast of north-western Cyprus, authorities said on Tuesday.

They said the refugees arrived at about noon at Cape Akamas, the most northwestern tip of Cyprus, about 20 km from the nearest inhabited area.

The region is a national park where there are no roads except earth tracks.

Authorities said that teams of the civil defense force and the police are heading to the area to offer help to the refugees, among them some women and several children.
