Cyprus Airways successfully completed its first test flight last Friday with an initial trip to Heraklion, Crete.

The first flight (CY0001) departed from Larnaca airport on 3rd March 2017, for the one hour thirty minute trip. The flight was undertaken in order to obtain an AOC license (Air Operator Certificate) to allow it to carry passengers.

The Airbus A319, sporting the company’s new colours, took off at 10:30am with members of the civil aviation authorities on-board.

The new Cyprus Airways,  a joint-venture between Russia’s S7 Holdings and a consortium of Cypriot investors, took delivery of its first A319 plane in December 2016. In July 2016 the company acquired the right to use the Cyprus Airways name and other trademarks for an initial period of ten years for the sum of €2.04 million.

Now that this stage has been completed successfully the company aims to open ticket sales to the public shortly - more information to follow.
