At around 10am on Wednesday morning, five Turkish fighter jets on patrol entered Cyprus airspace and maneuvered around the area of Apostolos Andreas.
According to date from the Air Traffic Control Tower in Kokkinotrimithia, the jets flew all the way down to Famagusta before then following a course off the south coast of the island (some 30 miles it is estimated) before finally finishing just west of Paphos.
The jets then returned to Turkey.
Media reports claim that the violations were “a bid by Turkey to further escalate tensions with Greece” but to also “build on the climate of mistrust between the two communities on the island following the stall of peace talks” between President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci.”
