Kyrenia residents have been complaining for years that the town is growing without any planning and consideration to the needs of a modern centre and its residents.

Residents are also complaining about the increase in number of very high buildings.

A total of 210 building permits have been issued from January 2011 to January 2016.

Out of the 210 permits, 35 concerned 10 story buildings, 18 concerned buildings of eight stories and 30 buildings of between 5 and 7 stories.

The matter was brought to light by Turkish Cypriot Newspaper Yeniduzen. In an earlier edition the newspaper hosted statements from Kyrenia council head Nidai Gungordu saying that most of the ten-story buildings are located at the Bellapais traffic lights, central Semih Sancar Avenue and in the area between the Celikler Hospital and the Kyrenia peripheral highway.
