Back to school for traffic offenders

A proposed bill will give police and the courts the ability to send serious traffic offenders back to school in order to polish up on their driving skills.

A Justice Ministry study into the creation of a driving school for traffic violators has been completed and is being evaluated while expert have been appointed to prepare the necessary lessons that violating drivers will be forced to retake.

The legislative proposal is set to be presented to the cabinet once the necessary evaluation has been completed.

The bill will make provisions for drivers committing serious traffic violations to be sent to the driving schools for lessons, while giving judges the option to send drivers with 12 penalty points against their licence to the school instead of confiscating their licence.

Motorists will also be given the choice of either attending classes or appearing in front of a judge while drivers caught speeding, driving without a belt or other serious traffic violation...
