Famagusta Carnival 2017 Starts Thursday

With the events for this year's Famagusta Carnival starting this Thursday, February 16th, preparations behind the scenes are well underway. At a busy press conference held at City Hall in Sotira this year's Carnival King & Queen were announced.

Carnival Queen will be Florina Omirou who heads the Sotira Municipality dance group and is a Sotira School Board member. Mayor of Sotira, Mr. George Takkas, will be this year's Carnival King and will lead the carnival procession on Sunday 26th February with the "Queen Of Tourism" float. The aim of the theme is to show the enormous contribution the whole Famagusta area makes to tourism and the country's economy.

During the presentation Sotira Mayor, Mr. George Takkas thanked the other Municipalities of the free Famagusta district for awarding him the role of Carnival King and invited everyone to visit the Famagusta Carnival to entertain themselves to the frenetic rhythms of Carnival.

The Mayor of Paralimni, Mr. Theodoros Pyrillis, noted that this year the turnout is expected to surpass previous years numbers with tens of thousands of visitors due to head to Paralimni for the parade itself.

Highlights:

Thursday 16/2: Shrove Thursday - 5:00pm until late Paralimni Center - plenty of food, drinks and music! The Carnival King & Queen will enter the town signalling the official start of the Carnival. Live radio link up.

Saturday 25/2: 8:30pm Night time Carnival Parade together with the Batukinio percussion group & Cheerleaders The parade will be followed by a street party at the square.

Sunday 26/2: 2:00pm The main Famagusta carnival 2017 parade from Paralimni second primary school.
