Cyprus remembers Helios Airways disaster - 17th anniversary

14th August, 2022 marks seventeen years since the fatal plane crash of the Helios 737 Boeing that killed 121 people on board.

Helios Airways Flight 522 took off from Larnaca International Airport, on its way to Prague via Athens.

The Boeing crashed in the hillside of Grammatikos in Greece, after circling in a holding pattern unpiloted for almost three hours before the Boeing 737 ran out of fuel and plummeted into the ground.

It crashed, north of Athens, and claimed the lives of all 121 people on board, most of them Cypriots going on holiday.
