Teachers’ unions on Saturday expressed concerns about the reopening of primary schools on Monday against a background of understaffing, which has only been made worse by the latest coronavirus surge.

Head of primary school teachers’ union Poed, Myria Vasiliou told local media that barely any pupils returned to nurseries and special schools when they reopened on Friday.

According to data collected on Friday, around 69 per cent of pupils and 18 per cent of teachers were absent from nursery schools.
