Police on Wednesday said they had fined a cafeteria in Nicosia €8,000 for failing to check customers for a SafePass.

The violation was identified during 2,975 nationwide checks that also resulted in the booking of one kiosk in Nicosia and 28 individuals.

The owner of the kiosk was fined €500 for allowing an employee to work without a SafePass.

The checks were carried out between 6am on Tuesday and 6am on Wednesday, with the main violation among individuals being the failure to wear a facemask.

Most people, 13, were fined in Famagusta where police conducted 538 checks.
