A large demonstration in Limassol, protesting against recently imposed lockdown measures and corruption, ended in violence with attacks on police and property in the city centre.
Over 150 police officers, from various units, were deployed to quell the serious disorder on Saturday evening. Initial reports from local media state that 3 officers were slightly injured and over 20 arrests were made.
Whilst the initial protest was reported as being peaceful, trouble flared as the demonstration broke up involving a small group of protestors. Waste bins were set alight with stones and fireworks being launched at police.
