Eight people who became infected during eye surgery at the Apollonio private hospital will lose up to 80 per cent of their eyesight, the ophthalmologist under whose care they are, told the Cyprus Mail on Monday.

“Even though we cleared out the infection the damage done on the patients’ eyes is irreversible” consultant ophthalmologist and chemical director of Pantheo eye centre Dr Theodoros Potamitis said.

The patients, aged 60 to 80 years old, are currently being treated at the Makarios and Nicosia public hospitals.
