With Autumn nearly upon us, the next public holiday in Cyprus is just over two weeks away.

The Republic of Cyprus will celebrate the 60th anniversary since the declaration of its independence, on Thursday, 1st October 2020.

Usually on this public holiday you would expect to see various military & student parades across the island with thousands of spectators. However due to the current Coronavirus restrictions this year will be different. The Council of Ministers has decided that the military parades will be carried out only in the presence of officials, in line with protocols, and without the presence of the public.

Later in the month, on Wednesday 28th October, there will be another public holiday this time to celebrate Ochi Day.

The day marks the anniversary of the day the Greek leader Ioannis Metaxas rejected the ultimatum made by Italian dictator Mussolini on October 28th 1940, when he demanded that Axis forces to enter Greek territory and occupy certain unspecified "strategic locations" or otherwise face war.

Ochi Day is celebrated throughout Greece, Cyprus and the Greek communities around the world.
