A Limassol man was seriously injured on Sunday night after crashing his car in his attempt to avoid hitting a fox that had wandered onto the motorway.

According to police, the accident occurred at 11.30pm on the Limassol to Nicosia motorway just shy of Ayios Tychonas when the 70-year-old motorist appeared to careen into the side-railing – after previously running over a fox – before then slamming into a car being driven by a 46-year-old man.

The 70-year-old was rushed to Limassol General Hospital where doctors observed that he had sustained a broken neck and a brain hemorrhage. The fox was killed.

He was later transferred to Nicosia General Hospital due to the seriousness of his condition.
