Call for blood donations to cover holiday period

The Blood Centre of the Ministry of Health has thanked all those who have already given blood during the summer holiday period and made sure there were sufficient quantities of blood available.

According to the announcement though more blood donations are needed to see hospitals through until the end of August. Specifically around the 19th to 23rd August the need for blood is enormous and the effort to meet these needs is particularly difficult, due to the absence of many donors on their summer holidays.

"Therefore, and in order to continue to offer blood to our fellow human beings who need it, we call on regular and new donors to come forward for blood donation" the statement added.

To better serve blood donors, the opening hours of blood donation stations across Cyprus are as follows:

Nicosia: Blood donation station,  Engomi Health Centre
Monday-Friday: 7.30 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Limassol: Blood donation station, Limassol General Hospital
Monday, Thursday, Friday: 7.30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Tuesday, Wednesday: 7.30 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Larnaca: Blood donation station, Larnaca General Hospital
Monday, Thursday, Friday: 7.30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Tuesday, Wednesday: 7.30 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Paphos: Blood donation station, Paphos General Hospital
Monday: 7.30 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Tuesday-Friday: 7.30 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Famagusta: Blood donation station, Famagusta General Hospital
Monday-Friday: 7.30 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Blood donations improve the quality of life of many of our patients and in many cases it has been crucial to saving lives, the statement concluded.
