Crews from the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) are working to repair the damage caused by a large fire in the Limassol district. The fire which broke out around 11:40am on Monday morning between Malia and Pachna engulfed a large area is still being fought by firefighters.

According to EAC spokesperson Christina Papadopoulou, damage was caused to electricity poles, lines and transformers and this had earlier resulted in a power outage in several areas within the Limassol district.

The areas affected by the power outage were:  Silikou, Pachna, Agios Therapon, Vouni, Koilani, Malia and Pera Pedi. Mrs Papadopoulou confirmed that electricity has been restored to those affected except for some individual consumers in the area of Vouni.

Finally, Mrs Papadopoulou confirmed that the crews will be working all night to repair the damage.

Cyprus media noted that local police have arrested a 43-yr-old Greek Cypriot suspect in relation to the fire and he is expected to appear in court on Tuesday morning.
