The total social cost of illegal substances for 2016 stood at 0.33 per cent of Cyprus’ GDP or €60 million, a study conducted by the Cyprus National Addictions Authority (Nacc) showed.

The term social cost refers to the cost imposed on a society as a result of the phenomenon of illegal substance use. This includes treatment and prevention costs, law enforcement costs, loss of income and productivity decline.
