Ryanair will shut down online bookings and check-in for a period of 12 hours after the airline said it needed to shut down its website and mobile phone app.

It said the shutdown from 17:00 UK time on Wednesday to 05:00 on Thursday was needed for an "essential" computer systems upgrade.

In a tweet Ryanair confirmed:

"Due to an essential reservation system upgrade, our website and app will be unavailable on 07th November 2018 17.00 (GMT) to 08th November 05:00 (GMT)."

Ryanair "sincerely apologised" to customers for any inconvenience, and urged anyone needing to check in to do so before the closure.

The airline said it has sent emails and text messages to all customers flying on Wednesday or Thursday to advise them to check in online on Tuesday.

Ryanair’s policy is to charge passengers an extra £55 if they need to check in at an airport.
