In a spontaneous event around two hundred people gathered outside the Paralimni Municipality offices on Wednesday evening in a show of support for the mayor, Theodoros Pyrillis. The residents wanted to express their sympathy and support for the Mayor of Paralimni after the recent bomb attack at his home which took place in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The mayors of both Ayia Napa and Sotira also attended the event and stated that this criminal act is a blow to democracy and local government when a mayor is targeted in this way.
Some protesters, angered by the attack, held signs with messages that when translated read "Famagusta is not terrorised - It is united".
Meanwhile after an extraordinary meeting of the Paralimni Municipality Council they issued the following statement:
"We strongly condemn the cowardly bombing of the mayor's home, which is a bomb on the foundations of modern democratic society. We further express our unwavering support for the mayor and his family and assure him that we will stand next to them in the difficult moments that pass. "
