Within an eight hour period, Paphos Police collected the record sum of €21,000 in outstanding fines.

Currently in Paphos, there are thousands of warrants for unpaid fines pending collection, the vast majority of which concern the activities of the Municipality of Paphos. For several months the municipality has been handing over a large number of such warrants to the police to promote their collection.

Overall, according to a report in Phileleftheros, in a single eight hour period, 104 warrants were executed for the amount of twenty one thousand euros.

The report states that this is both the largest number of warrants executed and the largest amount of money recovered for public funds in a single day in Paphos.

There have been discussions recently regarding outsourcing the execution of court warrants for unpaid fines to free up police resources. It was noted that Cyprus is the only EU country where the collection of unpaid fines is the job of the police.
