481 Drivers reported for traffic offences in 24hrs

The police yesterday revealed the results of a 24hr nationwide traffic campaign that was completed over recent days.

According to the police, the results cover a period from 6am Thursday to 6am Friday with police checks conducted across Cyprus.

481 drivers were reported for traffic offences which included 212 complaints of speeding, 34 complaints for using a mobile phone while driving, 10 for driving under the influence of alcohol and 225 complaints for various other road traffic offences.

In a separate police campaign, it was revealed that 40% of drivers stopped in the Paphos area were reported for various offences.

Specifically Paphos Traffic Police conducted the campaign between 4pm and 10pm on Thursday. Roadside inspections were carried out on secondary roads and in the villages of the Paphos District. Locations were selected that had been identified as being at high risk of traffic accidents.

According to the Police, a total of 80 vehicles were stopped, with 32 reported for offences including 19 speeding complaints, 7 complaints for not wearing a seat belt or helmet and 6 complaints for various other road traffic offences.
