With Eurovision 2018 only a matter of months away we take a look at the entry choosen to represent Cyprus. Without a win in their 34 previous appearances could 'Fuego' be the one to bring home the victory?

A few hours ago, the Cypriot national broadcaster CyBC made public the song, 'Fuego', which Eleni Foureira will be flying to Lisbon to perform together with the hopes of many Cypriots.

Eleni Foureira, dubbed the 'Queen of Pop', has had several successes in both Greece and Cyprus and now has her sights set on international success. As a performer she has won numerous awards over the years and gone on to release several successful albums including her most recent, Vasilissa, which was released in December 2017. The staging of the entry has been assigned to the internationally acclaimed artistic director and choreographer Sacha Jean-Baptiste, who has extensive experience at the Eurovision Song Contest.

The 63rd edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to take place in Lisbon on May 8, 10 & 12th and the contest is probably as well known for the voting politics as it is for the songs. It will take place for the first time in Portugal following the country's first victory at the 2017 contest in Kiev, Ukraine with the song "Amar pelos dois", performed by Salvador Sobral.

Cyprus first took part in Eurovision in 1981 and although a few years were missed in the intervening years it certainly is long overdue a win. During that time the highest place Cyprus ranked was fifth with Anna Vissi in 1982, Hara and Andreas Constantinou in 1997 and Lisa Andreas in 2004.

Cyprus holds the record for the most times participating in the Eurovision Song Contest without winning. Cyprus has qualified for the last three consecutive Eurovision Song Contest Grand Finals with Hovig representing the country in 2017 with Gravity.

Eleni Foureira will perform in the First Semi-Final of the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest on Tuesday 8th May.
