Police in Cyprus will be conducting a nationwide clampdown targeting motorists and passengers without seat belts this week. Apart from seat belt checks, police will also be looking to see if children are properly seated in child safety seats.

The purpose of the campaign is to raise the awareness of drivers and passengers regarding the use of seat belts and child safety seats, with a view to preventing / reducing serious and fatal injuries in road traffic collisions.

It is worth noting that according to police figures, during the past five years, 62.6 per cent of people killed in road deaths were not wearing seat belts.

This is the seventh campaign this year to specifically target those either not buckling up or not using child car seats.

The campaign will run from Monday 18th 2017 until Sunday 24th December 2017.
