Artist Sumer Erek made a series of art interventions in the memory of slain Turkish Cypriot student Muharrem Ozdemir on the 40th anniversary of his death.

Ozdemir was killed in what was a political murder on December 7, 1977 in Istanbul, where he was attending the Mimar Sinan University.

He was one of two students, who were kidnapped and shot by members of a Turkish far-right group, in the run up to the September 12, 1980 coup.

In his first intervention, Erek ‘stood in commemoration’ of Ozdemir at the Bosphorus waterside of the Mimar Sinan University.
